Jo Hamerton and Rob Gray

LiamOur son, Liam Rhys, was born on 17th January 2008 in Preston and after just 50 minutes he stopped breathing. He was ventilated and diagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (a hole in the diaphragm). He was transferred to Pendlebury Children’s Hospital, Intensive Care Unit in Manchester. The staff cared for him until he was strong enough for the operation he required and also after the surgery until he was well enough to come home. Liam is still under the care of the hospital who are monitoring his progress.

The care and support we received from the hospital was fantastic and when we heard that the ICU and HDU units of Pendlebury needed to raise money for much needed equipment to help others, Rob and I decided to arrange a Sponsored Walk on Sunday 28th September from Blackpool to Preston (approx. 15 miles) to help raise money and give something back to them as a thank you for all they have done for Liam and hopefully to help others in the future.
